Why Say Something Now?

Hi all!
Living with and loving someone who has a mental illness is difficult and it takes special people to do it. That endeavor is even harder when the illness is hidden or unnamed, maybe shrouded in ignorance, lack of resources, cultural blindness or stigma. Most of us know someone who suffers from a mental illness, whether it's depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or autism. My hope is to inspire you to learn more about these disorders and show you what living with some of these disorders REALLY looks like. By sharing my story and my insights, I hope to educate and take power away from the beast that is stigma. I appreciate YOUR insights and comments too, and I look forward to chatting with you. It feels good to come out of the closet, so I'll begin my blog with this: My name is Jessie, I'm 34, and I have bipolar disorder. I am a mom, a wife, a teacher, a student, a friend and a leader among many other things. I am so much more than a label.
